Welcome from the Mayor, City of Botany Bay
With a history now spanning three centuries, the City of Botany Bay has retained and grown its strong local community spirit and never allowed itself to be overshadowed by our neighbours.
While we may be part of the Sydney metropolitan area, our residents are proud to be able to say that they come from the City of Botany Bay.
Via this web site, you are able to access information on all the services and activities this City provides its residents and those with whom we do business.
You can browse through our history, see how our City is governed and get details of those elected to serve the local community.
Dogs Off-Leash Areas
Council has had numerous requests for additional off-leash areas for local dogs and has taken in next steps in providing new areas.
First there was Astrolabe Park and then an area in Sir Joseph Banks Park.
Both have been successful, covering two distinct areas in the City.
The two new proposals are for off-leash areas in Mascot and Pagewood.
Important Notice about Garbage
This is an important reminder for residents about what is NOT allowed in your domestic waste bin - that is your green wheelie bin. The list is really common sense and includes: Asbestos and fibro sheeting, paint and pain related products and empty tins; Pesticides and Herbicides, pool chemicals, floor sanding saw dust, solvents and household cleaners, motor oils, car batteries, acids and alkalis, gas bottles, fire extinguishes and hazardous waste chemicals. There have been a few incidents recently where some of these items have found there way into our garbage trucks. When this occurs it becomes extremely dangerous for our workers. When crushed, these items can explode or spray hazardous fluids. So please for the safety of all be careful of what you put in your bin. There are a number of safe ways to dispose of these items and Council is currently preparing a leaflet which will be letterboxed to all residents providing these details. In the meantime, if you have any such items that you wish to get rid of please ring Judith, Council’s Environmental Scientist on 9366-3666 and she will be happy to advise you of where you can take these items to be disposed of safely.
