Ask-a-Librarian Service

'Ask-a-Librarian’ is our online reference service. Questions sent by our patrons are professionally answered within the scope of our service policies. Our objective time for answering your question is always given when the question is submitted. Patrons can choose to receive a response by email, phone or fax. The sort of questions we can answer are:

·         Brief questions requiring a factual answer

·         Broader questions requiring resources to be identified

·         Questions answerable from the Library’s internal resources or from the Internet

You can submit Local History questions, however, those requiring in-depth research may have charges incurred as detailed in Council’s Fees and Charges Schedule. Please contact a librarian for referral to this service.

George Hanna Memorial Museum

Established in 1995, this local history museum aims to exhibit a wide range of social history that reflects our broad community. Exhibitions are changed regularly and focus on the local area - wetlands, sport, industry, market gardens and multiculturalism are some of the topics we have covered.

By visiting the Museum you can find out about the people and events that have helped to shape the area we know today.

You can help to tell the story too. If you would like to take part in future exhibitions, you can join the oral history programme, tell your story or lend items for display. It's your Museum and your history.

The Museum also accepts donations of relevant materials and can cater for school visits. Contact the Curator for more information.

Botany Historical Trust

The Council established this Trust in 1994 to enable local residents to learn more about their local area. Trust members work closely with the Museum to make this history more accessible. Interesting speakers are invited to general quarterly meetings and excursions to historical sites are organised.
The Executive provides assistance and advice to the Council regarding the preservation of our history and heritage.
If you would like to join the Trust you can collect an application from at either Mascot or Eastgardens. Membership is free and fun.
