Sir Joseph Banks Park - Scheduled Works

Sir Joseph Banks Park – Bush Regeneration and Fencing.

The Council has commissioned Toolijooa Environmental Pty Ltd to undertake further bush regeneration works at Sir Joseph Banks Park, Botany to consolidate and progress works conducted there in 2015. The works proposed are based on the revised priority actions in the Sir Joseph Banks Park Review of Vegetation Management Plan 1999, undertaken for Council by UBM Ecological Consultants Pty Ltd.

Toolijooa is ideally suited to take on these works having a wealth of recent and current experience locally dealing with weed control programs in bushland in eastern Sydney including the endangered ecological community - the Eastern Suburbs Banksia Scrub (ESBS) regeneration projects at Eastlakes, The Lakes and Bonnie Doon golf courses and different contracts with Sydney Water. The company also works in ESBS remnants as well as other coastal vegetation communities through various contracts with St Michaels Golf Club, Randwick City Council and for the Department of Finance at Malabar Headland.

The first stage of works at Sir Joseph Banks Park was also undertaken by Toolijooa and was funded with the assistance of a State Government Grant of $21,084 received from the Public Reserves Management Fund. The additional works are being funded by Council and Orica.

Works are now underway in the most heavily weed infested part of the park and includes herbicide spray treatment of Lantana camara (lantana) and Chrysanthemoides monilifera subsp. rotundata (bitou) where possible and without off-target damage to native species. Hand removal of other weeds such as ludwigia, cestrum, asparagus and prickly pear will be included. Weed removal will also occur along the existing fence line at the Foreshore Road boundary of the park to clear the boundary for a new fence to be erected early in 2016.
