Exhibition & Advertising

Council is required to notify adjoining and neighbouring owners that may be affected by a development proposal unless the proposal is of a minor nature.

The Environmental Planning and Assessment Act and the Botany Bay Development Control Plan set out the requirements of what types of development should be exhibited and for how long.  If notification is required for a Development Application, Council will send out letters to nearby people or relevant organisations to comment on the proposed development.

In some circumstances, Council is also required to advertise a Development Application in the local newspaper.

Notification periods are generally between 14 and 30 day. During the notification and advertising period, interested parties are invited to view the plans and make a submission, this may be in support or an objection. Any objection should outline the reasons for the objection.
