Eastlakes Shopping Centre
On 19 July 2011, a project application was made to the then Department of Planning & Infrastructure for the redevelopment of the Eastlakes Shopping Centre located on Gardeners Road, Eastlakes.
The application proposed a mixed use (residential, serviced apartments, retail, commercial and community uses) development. Details of the project can be found at the Major Project Assessment Portal of NSW Planning & Environment.
The Development Application was assessed by the NSW Government as a transitional “Major Project” under Part 3A of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 through the provisions of Clause 13 of Schedule 1 of the State Environmental Planning Policy (Major Development) 2005.
- 5 April 2012: The project was approved for exhibition by the Director General, under section 75F of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979.
- 1 August 2012 – 28 September 2012: Exhibition of the Development Application. Botany Bay City Council objected to the proposed development, along with over 25 objections from members of the public. The authority to determine the Development Application was the Planning Assessment Commission.
- 19 September 2013: The Planning and Assessment Commission approved application to develop the Eastlakes Shopping Centre as per the plans recommended by NSW Planning & Environment, subject to a number of modifications.
- 6 December 2013: The Botany Bay City Council lodged an appeal seeking a judicial review under section 123 of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979. The appeal is currently awaiting judgement.
