Multicultural Spring Fair is on next week

We are now just a little over a week away from the 2016 Multicultural Spring Fair. The Fair is being held on Saturday 3 September at Eastlakes Reserve between 10.00 am and 4.00 pm. The day brings together the community to celebrate the cultural diversity in our City of Botany Bay. There will be many fun rides for the kids, face painting, fantastic food from around the world, great stalls and shopping and amazing entertainment. Don’t forget to put the date in your diary as we would love to see you all there!

Portable defibrillator units

Great news! Thanks to the hard work of our local Federal Member for Kingsford Smith, Matt Thistlethwaite, Council has received a funding grant of $5,000 from the Stronger Communities Program. This funding matched by Council will purchase four portable defibrillator units for use by our local sporting clubs, Mascot JRLFC, Mascot Kings Football Club; Pagewood Botany Football Club and the Botany Rams JRLFC. Council also identified the need for three additional units to be placed in selected Council facilities to add to the health, safety and wellbeing of the community. These three defibrillators will be installed at the Hensley Field, the Pagewood Library and Council’s Administration Building.

Free Immunisation Clinics

Did you know Council runs free immunisation clinics every month?

Immunisation is the best way to protect your children from serious vaccine preventable diseases. The more people who have their children immunised, the greater the ability to control serious vaccine preventable disease outbreaks in our community. In 2014 changes were made to the NSW Public Health Act to improve vaccine coverage in children to prevent the outbreak of serious vaccine-preventable diseases.

These requirements prevent childcare facilities from enrolling children unless immunisation certificates proving that they are fully immunised, or have a specified exemption, are provided at enrolment.

The next free Immunisation Clinics will be run on Thursday 1 September. There will be three clinics to choose from. The first is at Mascot Early Childhood Centre, 51 Coward Street, Mascot, from 9.00am to 10.00am; then there is an afternoon clinic at the Central Library, Westfield Eastgardens from 2.00 pm to 3.00 pm and evening clinic at the library from 6.00pm to 7.00pm. If you require more information visit our website or call Council on 9366 3666.

Celebrate History Week 2016

Sydney Airport and Port Botany have totally changed the character of our City. For many years, locals enjoyed the suburb’s relative isolation and made full use of our location on the northern foreshores of Botany Bay. During the mid-20th Century this all changed as large stretches of land were reclaimed to expand the airport and construct the port. You can discover how these two major transport hubs impacted and altered the landscape by joining a guided bus/walking tour on Friday 9 September 2016, 10 am -12 noon.

This free tour takes place on Friday 9 September 2016 between 10:00am and 12:00pm. Bookings are essential as places are limited so call 9366 3802 to book your place.
