Garden Competition 2016
Published on 11 July 2016
It’s time for our annual Garden Competition, an event where Council encourages all our residents to take part. Our local private gardens are as vital to our City as our public parks and reserves. Private gardens play an important role in making our suburbs some of the most attractive in Sydney.
There are some great prizes to be won and we are looking for gardens of all types, shapes and sizes. It can be your front or back garden, it can be a garden you have created on your balcony or in a small courtyard, it can be a garden created by school children or by a local business that has a beautifully kept landscaped entrance to their property. There is a category for everyone. You can enter your own garden or nominate a neighbour. We want to hear about all the well-kept and attractive gardens in our City.

Who are the Judges?
Each year the NSW Professional Garden Judges Group appoints two judges for the City of Botany Bay. This year the judges will be renowned horticulturalist Hazel King and Landscape designer and horticulturalist Carmel Quill. Both have extensive experience judging residential gardens for local councils and gardening societies around Sydney.
Neither lives nor works in the City of Botany Bay local government area.
This is the second year Hazel has judged the competition. The Professional Garden Judges Group rotates appointments. A judge is only allocated to a competition for two consecutive years.
Both Hazel and Carmel will be invited to the presentation evening to congratulate the winners and chat to all the entrants about their gardens.
