Citizenship Ceremonies In Botany Bay

Australia Day 2013
Citizenship ceremonies are the final step in the journey to become an Australian citizen. They are special events and provide the Botany Bay City Council with an opportunity to officially welcome our new citizens to our community.

Throughout the year, the Botany Bay City Council hosts a number of Citizenship Ceremonies. Mayor Ben Keneally conducts the ceremony and presents candidates with their certificate of citizenship.

The dates and number of ceremonies is determined by advice given by the Department of Immigration and Border Protection. When the Department have enough candidates for a ceremony they advise Council and a date is set. The Department provides the list of candidates to receive their citizenship and certificates for the ceremony. Each ceremony is conducted in accordance with the Australian Citizenship Ceremony Code.

The Australia Day Ceremony is held at the Botany Aquatic Centre. All other ceremonies are held in the Alf Kay Eastlakes Community Centre.
